For her skin color I DID use white, to narrow down the colors used; I think I used around 10 colors
I'm not sure what to say at this point. It's created something interesting in a good way, so I don't want to discourage it at all, but at the same time, I think you intended for something different. Minimal colors is a rough monster to over take. But part of that often has to be part of the design, I think.
The blue it's self would make it hard to deal with trying to hit the middle ground with that white and a more skin like color. For that, I think you need to really get into generating a type of "colored light" effect. I don't know the real name, but imagine if you shone a bright red light on the character...how much would all those colors change? How hard would it be to identify certain colors in that light?
This might not have the solution but I'm taking a guess that might help. Sorry I can't really say much to actually help @_@
On a side note, I really love what you did with that scroll @u@ Especially with the twists.
